The title of “European City of wine culture” was given to the area of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Superiore D.O.C.G. at the November 18, 2015 meeting chaired by Recevin, the European Network of 1,000 Cities of Wine. The meeting was held in Brussels at the headquarters of the EU Parliament. The heart of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Superiore D.O.C.G. encompasses the vineyards owned by the Follador family. The official passing of the baton was held in Reguengos of Monsaraz, Portugal on February 14th.
The mayors of the two cities involved expressed enthusiasm and satisfaction. Floriano Zambon, Mayor of Conegliano and current President of the National Wine City in the Prosecco Superiore zone says, “This year we will be in the spotlight of Europe thanks to this recognition.” Luciano Fregonese, Mayor of Valdobbiadene and president of the Observatory on the landscape, said in turn that the territory will now be a “protagonist at the European level in the discussion of wine culture, also in view of its upcoming candidacy for the prestigious UNESCO heritage.”
There has already been a program drafted of cultural and gastronomic activities spread throughout the year to enliven the territory of 15 municipalities; encouraging their notoriety and tourism. Among the events planned: a college internship that will involve Prosecco Superiore, the international convention of the Wine City, the 140 years of wine-making school, the 50th anniversary of the wine route (1966-2016) and numerous other initiatives.
Because of our historical sense of belonging to this Terroir, and of its contribution to the excellence of Prosecco Superiore, we at Follador feel strongly associated with the general satisfaction with this important award.
2020 HARVEST – AN EXCELLENT VINTAGE
The quality of the grapes harvested is excellent; the climate was lenient and favorable, as evidenced by the fragrant bouquet of the musts, also good from an analytical point of view. 2020 was a particular and difficult year in many regards, but this magnificent harvest rewards us and gives us optimism for the future.
